The Movie Scene.
Imagine a scary movie where you have thousands of heroes referred to as geeks and nerds running around protecting millions of business people from the potentially earth shattering experience of waking up in the morning without secured internet access, data protection and all the other electronic gizmos they need to run their business.
Now, these geeks and nerds somehow have become a commissioned sales force for the all powerful Vendors. With very little knowledge about business or of what these businesses need, the Vendors are always upset with the geeks and nerds for not selling enough. Meanwhile, the business people just naturally assume that the geeks and nerds will always be available 24X7X365 to fix their gizmos. After all, they just naturally assume that the geeks and nerds enjoy fixing the gizmos faster than a speeding locomotive. Meanwhile the margins on the products they sell are becoming negligible.
So let’s sum this up. The heroes are the geeks and nerds who are tasked with the daunting job of putting together, selling and delivering, along with providing instant service and support for a bunch of IT-centric business solutions. Nobody understands or really cares about the predicament that the super heroes are faced with.
It gets worse. The geeks and nerds girlfriends or wives wants to know why you are not charging for the service you are provided. The Vendors continue to push them to sell more products. The SMBs want unlimited FREE service and support.
The situation for the geeks and nerds gets worse. The solutions become more important and thus the geeks and nerds quickly find themselves running around trying to please everyone. King Solomon knew … you can never please all of the people all of the time. \
For the geeks and nerds the stress keeps rising as the amount of available time they have keeps shrinking. They cut back on sleep. They stop taking lunch breaks and replace lunch with snacks. This leads to weight increase which results in sickness, lethargy and less hours to work. The plot thickens as the geeks and nerds give up all forms of exercise, stopping seeing friends, pushing personal time back and back and back. At some point, these fabulous techies with explode leaving the Vendors and SMBs in the dark. It will be a very sad day … unless someone comes along and saves the day.
The New Heroes.
Understanding that the mistaken identity of the geeks and nerds is going to lead to the destruction of the businesses which depend on the geeks and nerds to provide them with solutions and then make it virtually impossible for the Vendors to sell their products to the SMBs.
Enter, the Trusted Business Advisor program. Developed to protect everyone in the ecosystem with a focus on the VARs, this program was expected to look at the health of the channel and developing fixes that will let the geeks and nerds sell more products, create better solutions, etc., etc., etc.
It quickly became obvious that the health of the ecosystem had to include the physical and mental health of the geeks and nerds and make sure they changed their lifestyle so that they eat better, sleep better, manage stress better and thus, have more energy to perform their super services.
So What The Heck Am I Saying?
The Trusted Business Advisor program includes a weekly column on tips for channel members on how to live a healthier life style. This weeks issue provides insight on how to easily drop ten pounds in a year.
Don’t mess with your health. I strongly suggest that you read this column and take the advise very seriously.
